Phil got his first drumset when he was 12 and taught himself how to play by playing along with various songs and by watching his brother, David. He was faithful to the music and began playing in locals bands when he was only 14. He went on to join several bands, including Those Guys, Greyhorse, Nightrider, and Bootleggers. He traveled and played in Canada and to Nashville at the height of his musical journey. His health became an issue and he was forced to retire his drumsticks in 2003.
